In 1693, during the reign of William and Mary, Peter Abbott of London built an elegant longcase clock standing just 6' 6" high. Because of the unreliability of the movements in those days a lenticle glass was incorporated in the trunk door so that the owner could see the swing of the pendulum.
Many earlier longcase clocks were covered with floral marquetry work, but this clockcase has matched burr and crowncut walnut veneers which enhance the beautiful lines.
A fully detailed construction plan will enable you to build a virtual replica of Peter Abbott's masterpiece. The precision built brass movement and dial specified may be obtained from Yorkshire Clock Builders.
If so desired, the case may be built in either solid wood or 12mm plywood.
Movement recommended: Hermle 241-080 Twin bell strike.
Dial recommended: D21 Square Brass dial with silver chapter ring and Roman numerals.
Overall size: 1985 x 470 x275mm / 6' 6" x 18 1/2" x10 3/4" deep.
